I got into the middle of a conversation where I might not have had the most popular ideas. (That’s okay, I’m used to it.)
Midlife, unfortunately, has become a very treacherous road. The ads fly in at rapid speed:
You need Ozempic.
Botox, now!
We have a way to fix your lines and wrinkles.
Lose every one of those extra pounds.
We have an unlimited supply of suggestions and ways to “improve” who we are. And in midlife, women need A LOT of work! (They pound that message in incessantly.)
Let me be clear: I’m not judging people who follow that road. I get why women hit the turn signal and join that road happily. There’s a choice to be made, and they choose it. And that’s okay.
For them.
But there’s a whole bunch of us who have said NO to that road. We want another path. And that’s okay too.
And that was the message I shared in the middle of that conversation.
I feel we’ve entered a time period where we expect all problems to be solved like in the movies - the 2-hour effect. You enter the theater and see and hear the entire story in two hours. Problem. Solution.
So, of course, we expect to find the 2-hour solution in our own lives. That’s literally what Big Pharma has built the largest empire in the world on. Problem. Take a pill.
But eventually, some of us figured out that there was another way. A longer, slower way. A life change. A movement that puts you on another path. And that’s when you discover the “difference.”
See, we all want a body that carries us from birth to death happily and healthily. Our lifespan.
It’s the approach that changes. And this path works if you’re ready for it.
For finding YOUR way to honor your body. What you put in. What you take.
Finding YOUR energy. What food to eat. What movements to make. What habits to create.
And for some, the idea of creating a happy and healthy healthspan means taking that different road.
